The "Black Belt" are used in West Coast "Stand-Up" fishing situations. When you are fighting a large fish, holding the rod butt tight against your body gives you added leverage- but without a rod belt it can really be painful. These belts hold your rod firmly in place, allowing you to pump the rod and bring the fish to boat.
